The children of Thomas and Rebecca Bulstrode have been entered un various spellings and this is the first instance of the use of Boulstridge and Bolstridge.

At Present no link has been found to connect Thomas (and Rebecka) and Francis (and Jane Ashmore) to Edward and Margaret Bulstrode the evidence of a connection is purely circumstantial.
The Bedworth Registers clearly show a link between the Bulstrode and Bolstridge surnames. There are no other compulsory records that list a Bulstrode in the area except Sir William Bulstrode who died at Coventry, without issue, in 1646 and in his Will he made bequests to friends and to Edward Bulstrode (of Sole End) son of his kinsman Edward Bulstrode.
In 1774 a freeholder is listed at Bedworth Woodlands in the Warwickshire poll book called Francis Bolstridge.

1662 - April 1663 few entries at all register quite disorganized.
1663 Register in new hand and back no normal.

Thomas and his wife Ann had several children, three of whom, William, Thomas and John David, were baptised at St. Leonard's, Shoreditch, in London, in 1768, 1770 and 1771. Why Thomas went to live in London at that time is a matter of speculation but, after a few years, he and his family returned to Coventry and in 1772, the year in which Thomas was admitted as a Freeman of the City, they were living in the East Street Ward of the City. Two years later, in October 1774, at the time of the Poll to elect an MP for Coventry, Thomas was listed as an " Out-Voter " , living at Stoke, near Coventry. Thomas and Ann's daughters, Sarah and Phoebe, were baptised at Stoke in 1774 and 1777. In 1785, Thomas was recorded as Thomas Boulstridge of Stoke, engine weaver and, in 1796, as Thomas Bouldstridge, formerly of Gosford Street and East Street Wards, Coventry, the Bouldstridge spelling being that which members of the family acquired in London. Thomas's brother William was living in New Buildings, Coventry at the time he was admitted as a Freeman of the City and, in 1774, was living in Gosford Street.

NB ---- I do not question the above information it is well documented at Coventry Archives, however I cannot not see the justification for assuming that this Thomas is the same Thomas, the son of Francis and Eleanor from Bedworth Woodlands as placed by Norman Dudley.
The lack of Bol(d)stridges in the Parish Registers preceding this period has more to do with the state or loss of these registers than their absence. A recent index of the Precept Records records Bo(u)l(d)stridges prior to 1772, I shall check these in due course.

A far more likely candidate is the Thomas Bolstridge who married Hannah King (Arnold) at nearby Astly. This Thomas was wrongly allocated to John and Ann Hewitt by Norman Dudley who had missed the burial of their Thomas.

Another likely Candidate is the Thomas Bolstridge buried at Great Packington in 1781. No age is mentioned but these is a connection to Packington via Francis Bolstridges second wife Mary Daniel.

Notes:

Francis Bolstridge, who was baptised at Bedworth on 14th May 1775, joined the Warwick Militia in 1803. In 1833, then a sergeant, he was discharged due to severe gout, at the age of " 63 " . According to the Militia records, he was 5ft . 91/2ins. tall, had grey hair, dark eyes, a dark complexion and was of good character! The Militia had been re organised and increased in size in 1798 in the face of possible invasion by the French. From then on, the name Militia was restricted to infantrymen and the term Yeomanry was used for the cavalry units

Both William and Charlottes family were Ribbon Weavers and there was great distress in the trade at that time due to the cheap imports of factory produced ribbons in the 1840's
Pigot and Company's Directory for 1841 recorded that, at Bedworth: Three collieries, opened in the vicinity, are productive of some advantage to the inhabitants, who, previously to the depressed state of the ribbon trade, were chiefly employed in that branch of manufacture.

From " The Bolstridges alias Bulstrode of Bedworth " Norman Dudley

In August 1861, the Vicar of Bulkington, near Bedworth, recorded in his parish register that some 27 members of six local families were emigrating to Canada in consequence of the continued depression of the ribbon trade and that, at that time, there were 83 vacant houses in the parish. A year or two later, William Josiah Bolstridge (4 x great grandson of Thomas and Rebecca Bulstrode alias Bolstridge), who was born at Bedworth in 1825, and his wife, Martha Jaques, descendant of a once prosperous Huguenot family, who was born at Griff, in the parish of Chilvers Coton, both previously employed as ribbon weavers, as were their two eldest children, left their home in Bulkington Lane, Bedworth, and took their children to start a new life at Aston juxta Birmingham.

In 1861, William Josiah's father, Thomas, then aged 80, and Martha's grandmother, Mary Jaques, aged 77, both formerly ribbon weavers , were inmates of Bedworth Almshouses. Martha's father, Thomas, and grandfather, Thomas Jaques, had both been miners at the Griff colliery. Their ancestor, William Jaques, a yeoman of Chilvers Coton Woodland, was recorded in the 1674 Hearth Tax Returns as having a house with six chargeable hearths Mary, the first wife of Mr. Jaques of Coton Parish was buried in the Churchyard of Astley parish church on 17th February 1682. At that time, he was serving as a bailiff on the estate of the Newdigates of Arbury Hall.

William Josiah and Martha Jaques were married at Chilvers Coton parish church on 2nd September 1844. After their move to Aston, William Josiah (sometimes recorded as William and sometimes as Josiah) found employment as a railway porter and waggoner. Martha died there in 1874 at the age of 46, having borne twelve children, five of whom died in infancy.

William Josiah and Martha's son Samuel, who was born at Bedworth on 29th April 1854, was a young schoolboy when his parents moved to Aston, He married twice, having two children, Samuel and Ann Selina, by his first wife, Selina Turner, who died at the age of 26, and nine children by his second wife, Clara, daughter of William and Emma Cherry and granddaughter of Mark Cherry, a watchmaker, who was born in Buckinghamshire, where the family had lived since the 17th century.

2060. FREDERICK BOULDSTRIDGE was indicted for stealing, on the 7th of October, 1 pair of shoes, value 12s. , the goods of Daniel Dobell .

DANIEL DOBELL. I am a boot-maker, and live in St. John-street, Clerkenwell. On the 7th of October, I went out, about a quarter-past seven o'clock in the evening, leaving my boy Sanders in care of my shop - I returned about five minutes before eight, and he told me that Mr. Parker had detained the prisoner offering a pair of shoes to pawn, which I knew to be mine.

JAMES SANDERS . I am in the employ of the prosecutor: he went out on the evening of the 7th of October - I went to sleep in the parlour, and in the meantime the man came and took the shoes out of the window - it awoke me, and I looked up, and missed them.

HENRY PARKER . I am shopman to a pawnbroker on Clerkenwell-green. The pair of shoes were offered at our shop by the prisoner; I detained him, and sent for the constable.

HENRY BURGESS . I went to the shop, and took the prisoner.(Property produced and sworn to.)

Prisoner's Defence. A man asked me to pawn them for 6s., and said he would give me 1s. for myself.

GUILTY . Aged 23.

Recommended to Mercy by the Prosecutor.

FOUND DROWNED - On Sunday last as two young men residing in Nuneaton, and a labouring man, George Wright, from Bulkington, were passing the canal near Chilvers Coton, they observed something in the water which they thought to be a horse cloth. After trying some time with sticks to get it nearer the side, and as it turned over the face of a young woman presented itself, and for a moment they were terrified at the spectacle. The body was got out of the Water and conveyed to the Anchor Inn. It proved to be the body of Harriet Bolestridge, a female about 19 years of age, who had been engaged at work in Mr Townsend's silk throwing factory at Attleborough. The inquest was held Tuesday last at the Anchor Inn, Hartshill, before Alfred Carter, esq. Coroner. A mass of evidence was adduced which went to show that she was of unsound mind, and had repeatedly threatened to commit suicide - indeed she made an attempt to drown herself two months ago. She was engaged to a young man named Jonah Allen. but frequently told him she liked some one else better than him. On Saturday evening she went to a public house and called for half a pint of rum and soon afterwards half a pint of ale; she then left the house and was never again seen alive. At half past ten on the following morning the body of the deceased was found as above described in the canal. Under a bush close by the towing path was found a bundle containing a shawl and prayer book belonging to the deceased. There was also a letter in the bundle, the contents of which were as follows: - " Fare ye well my tender mother, and do not grieve; nor my sister love, nor brother, for this world I now must leave. I leave my sister my gold ring, my sampler, and all my little things, for I am in death. Jonah brought me to my grave early in youth; for I am in my bloom cut down like a flower from a tree. I am poison myself. Let Jane see me; pray do not fret for me - I am dead and gone, and my soul is lost for ever. Farewell all my friends, Jonah Allen brought me to this, but God will not forgive me. " The letter bore no date. There was nothing to prove any misconduct on the part of the young man, Allen, of whom the witnesses generally spoke well; and the Jury returned a verdict of " Temporary Insanity " .

Recruitment for the Guards was carried out in London.
The 23rd main barracks was at Chichester until 1871.
There is a connection with Leek but I don't know what. In the early 90's the IRA shot dead a Sergeant from the Welch Fusiliers at Leek railway station he was from a barracks nearby. This barracks had been in the news earlier after being raided by the IRA for arms.)

From Bolstridges alias Bulstrode of Bedworth by Norman Dudley :-

Richard Bolstridge, who was baptised at Bedworth on 3rd February 1828, emigrated to Australia in 1848, leaving Plymouth on the " Artemisia " on 15th August and arriving at Brisbane on 16th December. Richard, of whom it was said that he was Church of England and could read and write, married Eliza Greenwood at Brisbane in 1850. The daughter of William Greenwood, she had arrived from Northern Ireland on the " Earl Grey " at Sydney on 6th October 1848. Richard and Eliza had three daughters but Richard died in 1857, the year in which their third daughter, Sarah Jane, was born. Although the Bolstridge name did not survive for long in Australia, Linda Collett of Brisbane, one of the many descendants of Richard and Eliza, is actively researching their Bedworth origins. Incidentally, she reports that three different locations are recorded as Eliza's birthplace.
