A native of Atherstone, he was a founder-member of the British Legion and was instrumental in the purchasing of Atherstone Ex-Servicemens Club of which he was steward from 1920 to 1935.
When he left the Ex-Servicemens Club he became the landlord of the Maypole Inn at Baddesley Ensor from 1935 to 1952.He continued his interest in the Legion and formed a branch at Baddesley, when he retired he moved to 5, Daniel Rd., Mancetter.
He was keenly interested in air gun shooting and was the last president of Tamworth Air Rifle League and captain of the Ex- Servicemens Club.
He was chairman of Baddesley Parish Council for 6 years and chairman of the Goveners of Baddesley Schools. Serving on Baddesley Parish Council for 15 years and Atherstone Rural District Council for 23 years.
