    Date of Will : 25 April 1616

    Testator :Thomas Allen Gentleman of Harringworth Northamptonshire

    To Son Valentine Allen. The Manor of South Croxton and all my lands there in accordance with an unspecified settlement made sic " soon after the marriage to my late wife "

    To Daughter Ellen Allen. Five Hundred pounds; ?300 on her marriage if within 2 years of my death and the remainder in yearly payments of ?50 to start 5 years after my death.
    If not married within 2 years of my death ?300 to be paid 2 years after my death and the remainder at ?50 yearly starting 5 years after my death.
    Until married she shall be kept and maintained by Valentine Allen in the Parsonage House at Harringworth and shall receive ?10 for her apparel and a yearly payment of ?20 made in twice yearly equal amounts on the 26 July and the 8 Dec until married or two years after my death.

    To Son Thomas Allen : Five Hundred Pounds; Three Hundred 2 years after my death and the remainder ?50 yearly starting five years after my death.

The writing regarding the bargain and sale is difficult to decipher but I am sure this is the form it refers to( i.e. a form of deed or conveyance made between the father in law and Thomas Allen or may be reference to Richard Marlers will))

    Joan's father Henry Wigley appeared in Scraptoft in the early 1500?s as Bailiff of the Scraptoft Estates of Coventry Priory. The family originated in the Wirksworth and Middleton districts of Derbyshire. By 1600 the family had prospered enough to purchase various free holds in Scraptoft and the surrounding area.
    The manor of Scraptoft was acquired by Thomas Armeson in 1656 from Christopher Bradgate
