Caroline Hill was the illegitimate daughter of Harriet Hill. When she was 15 months old her mother married John Rhoden a miner at Bushbury Colliery. Subsequent DNA evidence shows that John Henry Rhoden or a very close relative of him was indeed her likely father.
Her mother died in 1916 and her father in 1920, the two other important people in her life Grandfather John Hill died in 1918 and Grandmother Esther (Jenks) in 1920 one month before her father.
Carrie ad her 3 other siblings were split between other family members,.
Carrie and Harriet moved back to the old family home at Gt Wyrley Street with her 2 Uncles John and Samuel and Aunt Doris.
