Notes |
- From Derrick Hewitt's " The Life and Times of Holy Trinity Church Loughborough " <1997>
" Billy Parsons was a very talented man, being a skilled wood carver, and the many examples of his skill, love and devotion to the church were to be seen amongst the artefacts in Holy Trinity. He was also able to play the organ and was capable of deputising in the absence of the regular organist.
Among the artefacts that were the products of his skills were the Altar rails, given by Miss Odham. which were dedicated on January 25th 1931. (The original altar rails were donated to the new Church of the Good Shepherd when it was consecrated in 1938.)
A carved font cover given by the Girls' Brigade was consecrated on June 9th 1935 (This was given to St Mary's Roman Catholic Church when Holy Trinity was closed in 1995)
A Bishop's Chair, given by Mr Cook in memory of his wife, consecrated by Bishop G. Vernon Smith in July 1946, now resides in All Saints Church.
An earlier Bishop's Chair also caned by Mr Parsons in memory of his own father and consecrated by Bishop Willis in 1927 now resides in the Church of England School in William Street.
The volume and quality of this work indicated the time and commitment that Mr Parsons (Billy) had for Holy Trinity. He also did work for other churches including Emmanuel Loughborough (hymn boards) St Savours Leicester (Eagle Lectern) as well as churches in Wolverhampton.
During his period of office Holy Trinity had some of its most successful days and this imposed a considerable work load on the clergy of the time and upon Mr Parsons. A study of the Easter communicant figures indicated the way in which Holy Trinity thrived in those days.

Away from the church Billy Parsons gave a lifetime of service to the Post Office serving from 1898 --1943 and being awarded the Service Medal. Also on 12th Dec 1913 he featured in the local press by stopping a runaway horse and dray as it galloped from Church Gate into the Market Place.
After his death in 1951 the caretaking and vergering tradition was carried on by his family mainly by his wife and son George. This arrangement continued until 1958 when the tasks became too much for Mrs Parsons..-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.The connection of the Parsons family with Holy Trinity and indeed with the United Parish of All Saints with Holy Trinity. has not been lost, being maintained by Miss Nellie Parsons, the daughter of Mr W. H. Parsons. who continues to worship at All Saints with Holy Trinity.
