      Ashby Folville (Population 122)
Situated six miles south-west of Melton Mowbray, Ashby Folville is famous for its large number of trees. Once the major tree was the ash, but now the horse chestnut predominates. The Parish Church of St. Mary was founded in 1220 by Maud Bassett and is a Grade I listed building. Launde Priory was the first patron. Maud Bassett's tomb is under an arch north of the chancel and dates from 1222. The church contains two squints: one allowing those in the " lepers chapel " to see the altar and the other in the Carington chapel enabling the Lord of the Manor to view the altar without being seen by the congregation.

There is a Tudor styled manor, which was reconstructed after a disastrous fire in the 18th century and also a Tithe Barn dating from 1540. Once thatched, it was roofed with Swithland slate in the 19th century. The village also has three semi-detached Almshouses built by the first Lord Carington in 1673. In 1981 new almshouses (Carington Cottages) were built with proceeds from the sale of the old ones, because the old almshouses were unsuitable for elderly people. The present Lord of the Manor belongs to the Smith Carington family, who are direct descendants of the original Folville family of 1100 A.D.
