There are however three marriages close to that of Sarah and Thomas Bolstridge. Jemima Shiplee in 1750 and Mary Shiplee in 1760. Possible connection via Rushtons Ann Rushon was a Witness and in 1851 Johns first cousin Samson was working on the farm of Robert Rushton and Mary at Hockley Hole. There was also a Christopher Rushton at Snow Hill, (on the Coleshill Turnpike near Mancetter Hill Farm), Nuneaton, a farmer and Licenced Victualler, both had children born at Hartshill. The 1881 Census at Stoke reveals two Edward Rushtons trading as coopers one born Hartshill and the other with a wife born at Wolvey. | 2607 | Why have I assumed that the Levi Balden and Sarah McGilchrist who baptised a son Levi at Glasgow in 1812 are the Levi and Sarah from Birmingham? The baptism at Glasgow was in the name Balden the same as the first civil registration entry in Birmingham indicating the same pronunciation. Levi was said to be born in North America, there are many Balden surnames in the IGI there and relatively few in the British Isles for this period. We know from register entries that Levi was at least part black and was a musician. The two witnesses of the baptism of Levi junior were :- (1) Henry McGilchrist: Assumed to be Sarah's father, of black origins born in Jamaica and a Musician. See notes Henry McGilchrist. This indicates that William Suckling was a tenant farmer of Lord Leigh. Lord Leigh of Stoneleigh Abbey was the major landowner in Warwickshire by the mid ninetenth century. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Bay 10 Cemetery: ARRAS MEMORIAL The Arras Memorial is in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, which is in the Boulevard du General de Gaulle in the western part of the town of Arras. The cemetery is near the Citadel, approximately 2 kms due west of the railway station. The French handed over Arras to Commonwealth forces in the spring of 1916 and the system of tunnels upon which the town is built were used and developed in preparation for the major offensive planned for April 1917. The Commonwealth section of the FAUBOURG D'AMIENS CEMETERY was begun in March 1916, behind the French military cemetery established earlier. It continued to be used by field ambulances and fighting units until November 1918. The cemetery was enlarged after the Armistice when graves were brought in from the battlefields and from two smaller cemeteries in the vicinity.
