1881 census age 2 living at Grendon
1891 census recorded in Atherstone Union Workhouse
1901census was recorded as coal miner living at 2, Alvecote Cottages, Shuttington.
John worked at Tamworth Colliery, where he had an accident crushing his leg, this turned gangrenous and was treated at Birmingham Hospital. This never healed properly leaving him with a limp and an ulcerated leg which had to be drained twice daily.
1911 census records John and family still living at 2, Alvecote Cottages but as boarders with Frank Gladwin and his family. At this time he is recorded as a roadman for Rural District Council. Presumably his accident occured between 1901 and 1911 and perhaps his house was tied to the coal company.
Later between 1911 and 1915 the family moved to 166 Long St Athersone (Cotton Mill Yard).
Burial record gives occupation as engineering labourer.
Atherstone Parish Council burial records show John having died at High Cross Hospital Rugeley however this is a bad transcription and should read Rugby.
Death recorded at Rugby 6D 765. Buried Atherstone cemetry plot number 1543.
