" This is the last will & testament of me Richard Allen of Melton Mowbray, in the county of Leicester, Saddler & Harness Maker. I give to my wife Mary Allen, such household goods as were hers before our marriage. I give to my Grandson William Charles, my silver watch, & to my Grandson,George
Frederick Allen, my silver cup & direct that all the rest & residue of my household effects shall be equally divide between my three sons, Silas, William & Adam Underwood Allen. I give & bequeath all my money, book debts, stock in trade & all my other personal estate not disposed of in my lifetime,or above,
by this will, to my son Silas Allen, he paying my debts, funeral & testimonial expenses. I give & devise all my stable, yard & premises situated in the Play Close Lane in Melton Mowbray aforesaid, unto my son Silas Allen, his heirs & assigns for ever charged nethertheless with the payment of such of my debts as my personal estate shall fall short of discharging. And I appoint my said son Silas sole executor of this my Will, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made. In witness wherof, I the said Richard Allen, the testator have herunder set my hand this twentyfifth day of February One thousand eight hundred & fifty seven.

Silas Allen of Melton Mowbray, in the county of Leicester, the sole executor in this Will was duly sworn to the truth & faithful performance therof as usual & to the truth of the usual affidavit for the Inland Revenue Office & to the goods & chattels & credits of the deceased do not amount to the sum of eight hundred pounds & that the deceased died on the sixteenth day of April instant.
