Why have we assumed this Daniel Bolstridge is the same as John Daniel Bolstridge baptised as a young man at Maxstoke.
1) Before his father John was was married he witnessed marriages at Maxstoke signing his name John Boastridge.
2) At Maxstoke register entries used Bostridge quite extensively alternating with Bolstridge and Bolestridge
3) The IGI gives us John Bostridge married Rebecca Birdett at Clifton on Dunsmore
4) The 1851 census shows Daniel Bostridge, born Macstoke, with sons John and William who were both baptised with Birdett - Burdett as middle names.

The evidence is convincing.

****************************************************************
There is an interesting possibility yet to explored regarding the Daniel part of John Daniels Name. There is no tradition of the Daniel Christian name in any of the Bolstridge families yet researched however there is a link to the Daniel surname. In 1770 Francis Bolstridge a freeholder of Bedworth Woodlands, the last Bolstridge of any property married Mary Daniel his second wife. Mary was the daughter of William Daniel of Packington, one of twins. The Daniels were and had been for some generations farmers in the area, a number of places today still refer to them on the larger scale OS maps, ie Daniel's Wood and Daniel's Pool, the 1893 OS map also shows a Daniels Mill. William Daniels name crops up many times in the Packington registers as a witness to marriages, possibly a Parish Clerk or Church Warden. This is similar to the situation at Meriden with Thomas Bolstridge. This may well provide an evidential link back to Bedworth eventually.

William Bolstridge 26 Ribbon Weaver
Charlotte " 23
Caleb " 1
************************************************
Charlotte Bolstridge and her four children Caleb, William, Susan and John arrived in New York on the 25 Apr 1850 travelling on the Hampshire from Liverpool. It appears that William her Husband had preceded her. All four Children were Baptised at Bedworth on the 10 Feb 1850 in preparation for the Journey

Both William and Charlottes family were Ribbon Weavers and there was great distress in the trade at that time due to the cheap imports of factory produced ribbons in the 1840's
Pigot and Company's Directory for 1841 recorded that, at Bedworth: Three collieries, opened in the vicinity, are productive of some advantage to the inhabitants, who, previously to the depressed state of the ribbon trade, were chiefly employed in that branch of manufacture.
